Fixing Bad Breath

Posted .

As a working adult, having fresh breath is a must in any professional situation. Bad breath can get in the way of making a great first impression, which isn’t what you want in the business world. Not to mention that bad breath can make social situations less “social”. If you’d like some help, the dentists and hygienists here at New Hampshire Center for Comprehensive Dentistry in Amherst, New Hampshire have a few different solutions that can help correct or minimize bad breath and restore your confidence in personal, work and social situations.

Get rid of dry mouth

If you have chronic dry mouth, that’s likely a huge contributing factor to your bad breath. When your mouth is consistently dry it creates a great breeding ground for the bacteria that cause bad breath to build up.  Frequent alcohol use or smoking can also cause dry mouth. Snoring is even a problem that causes dry mouth and bad breath (ask our dentists about snoring – they have a solution for that as well).

Drinking plenty of water helps correct dry mouth and there are some over-the-counter solutions that help moisturize your mouth longer than plain water.  Sugar-free lozenges, especially those with xylitol, will help decrease dry mouth.  Read more about dry mouth in this previous blog post.

Always floss

If you have bits of food or other debris trapped between your teeth it soon becomes the perfect “garden” for bacteria to grow.  If you forget to floss, you’ll increase your chances for bad breath. Aside from the odor, trapped food can also lead to other problems with your gums and supporting bone. Carry one of our “floss cards” that fits easily in your wallet or purse so you can floss after eating and keep your breath and mouth fresher.  Stop by our front desk for your complimentary floss card.  And take one to share with friends!

These are just a few ways that can help freshen bad breath. If you’d like to learn more, check out our previous post HERE, or call us today at 603-672-6546 for an appointment for professional intervention to help your bad breath. We’re here to help!
